Local Salvation Army & Church of Jesus Christ Youth Partner to Host Kids Music Camp

Teenage musicians from the Denver Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ co-hosted a free music camp for kids at The Salvation Army Denver Citadel this July. The youth heard about the need and helped organize not only the curriculum but gathered other teen musicians from church and school to join.

“As a piano teacher and musician, I know how music can change your life. I wanted to help these kids experience a lot of instruments and find their passion in the music.” – Carter Preece, piano teacher.

They met with neighborhood kids for two weeks and 3 1/2 hours a day, introducing them to the piano, guitar, drums and trumpet. At the end of the camp, students performed a concert in their chosen instruments and sang some songs as well.

“I would say the biggest thing I loved about it was getting to know the personalities of the kids and just watching all of them learn how to play the instruments.” Ian Marks, drum teacher.
