Denver Colorado North Stake Farmers Highline Canal Cleanup
By Gwenn Woodhouse, Communication Director, Denver North Stake
On March 21 and 22, the Denver North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held its semi-annual stake conference, and we have made it a tradition to have a stake service project with our weekend conference.
Stake conference has become big for us, a time we can hear from our own leaders and members of our stake. We were so thrilled to have Elder Karl D Hirst of the General Authority Seventy work alongside us at the Farmers Highline Canal cleanup.
Individuals and families walked the canal in the Thornton/Northglenn area and cleaned over 10 sections of the canal with our interfaith members and our wonderful neighbors right here in our community. We had families, little ones and those of us that are older making our way to multiple sections along the canal. The canal pathway stretches more than a dozen miles connecting Westminster, Northglenn and Thornton.
Driving by and seeing the water run through the canal days later was a reminder of all that we did to make our community much cleaner, safer and just better. We had fun, made a little money in our findings and truly loved working together. The beauty, serving and being together brings a feeling of gratitude and peace that we only feel from our Savior and the desire that we all have to serve and feel closer to Him always. What an amazing day!

Patriarch Clarke Carlson from the Denver Colorado North Stake and his beautiful wife JoEllen showed up to serve at our Interfaith/JustServe Stake service project. They were asked by many that saw them cleaning behind their homes what they were doing. They explained that they were part of a service project with their church, community and city to clean along the trail and the canal. So many thanked them and asked, “What church are you from?” Well, if you know Patriarch Carlson, he had on his BYU baseball cap so they knew.
