Westminster Boys Lean on Friendship through Difficult Medical Challenges
By Carly Smith, Westminster Stake Media Specialist
Eleven-year-old Isaac Sellers and 10-year-old Maverick Smith became friends after meeting each other at camps for children and church activities in the Westminster Stake. Both boys are friendly and loving to those around them. What they didn’t know when they first met was that they had something in common: both have a complicated medical history.
When Isaac, who has Coffin-Siris syndrome, heard that his friend was scheduled for heart surgery, he felt sad and empathetic. Having experienced hospital stays himself, Isaac knew how hard it could be. With his family, he decided to put together a care package filled with fun activities to help Maverick, who has Williams syndrome, during his recovery in the hospital.
This simple act of service reminded Maverick that he wasn’t alone. Even in difficult times, kindness has a way of shining through—and Isaac’s thoughtful gesture became a powerful reminder that love and friendship can bring healing, too.
