Aurora Track Star Prepares to Become Full-Time Church Missionary
By Shannon Drees, Arapahoe Stake Media Specialist
Did you know that McKay Larsen of the Tallyns Reach Ward in Aurora is a multi-award-winning track & field and cross-country champion and a collegiate athlete? Before graduating from Cherokee Trail High School in 2024, McKay had worked his way towards his 4-year letter award for Cross Country, participated in the All-State Track and Field team, won All-League Athlete in Track and Field, and set the school’s record best time with his 4x800m relay team.
After graduation and selecting to attend BYU, he continued his athletic career this past year with the FARM BYU running club. He’s raced in many events, including the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in California and the Nike Cross-Country Invitational in Oregon, where he set personal records for the 1500m and 5K events.
His next big endeavor that requires diligent preparation will be serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be able to serve the people in Modesto, California in the Spanish language starting in late July 2025.
McKay is quiet and doesn’t like to be in the spotlight, but he is a great example of how to be kind, funny, hardworking, intelligent, and driven. We are looking forward to the seeing his great efforts in action as he puts his whole heart into his missionary service.
