Sikh Community Hosts Langar Dinner to Support Local Latter-day Saints After Michigan Tragedy

In the days following the heartbreaking tragedy in Michigan, compassion reached across faith lines in Colorado. Members of the Sikh community extended an extraordinary gesture of kindness to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by hosting a Langar Dinner for local young single adults and youth—a shared meal meant to bring comfort, connection, and hope.

The event took place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Latter-day Saint meetinghouse on Monaco and Yale. Organized by the Colorado Sikh Gurudwara and coordinated by Dilpreet Jammu, the dinner offered a space for reflection and healing after a time of fear and sorrow.

A Langar dinner, one of the most sacred traditions in the Sikh faith, embodies the spirit of equality and compassion. It involves the selfless preparation and service of a meal to anyone who comes, regardless of their background, beliefs, or social status. The practice has been sustained for over five centuries, and today, more than two million Langar meals are served around the world each day—over six billion meals every year—each one representing a quiet act of service and solidarity.

As members of both communities gathered shoulder to shoulder, the atmosphere was filled with reverence and gratitude. For many, it was a poignant reminder that, despite the world’s tragedies, compassion knows no boundaries.

Dipika Nindra, one of the Sikh hosts, shared a message that touched every heart in the room:

“Langar, our humble offering of food, made with love and served without distinction, is a way of saying to you all that you are not alone.”

For those who attended, her words embodied the spirit of the evening. Many expressed how deeply moved they were by the Sikh community’s willingness to mourn with them and extend friendship during such a difficult time.

The dinner was more than just a meal. It was a living expression of shared humanity. Through faith, kindness, and service, the Sikh and Latter-day Saint communities came together to affirm what connects us all: love for one another.
