Parker High School Students and Community Honor Their Favorite Teachers

Before Parker’s high school seniors put on their caps and gowns for graduation, they wanted to honor the teachers who have been the most influential in their lives. The Parker Colorado Stake asked its senior seminary students to nominate one teacher or leader in their high school career that had a great impact on their lives. Those teachers were then invited to attend the stake’s annual Teacher Appreciation Night where they could be celebrated alongside the students who nominated them.

During the event, the students each read aloud an essay they wrote about their favorite teachers. Attendees said the event was filled with hugs and gratitude. “These teachers and leaders impact our community and unify the educators with the residents. We were grateful to be a part of this acknowledgement of extraordinary performance,” said Teresa Friess, Community Government Specialist with the Parker Stake.

In addition to the student tributes, the stake also arranged to have several prominent members of the Parker community address the teachers. Parker Mayor Jeff Toborg spoke along with Douglas County School District Superintendent Erin Kane. They each shared their pride in the teachers and gratitude for the guidance they provide to Parker’s youth. The event closed with remarks from Parker Stake President Chad J. Larsen. “Our educators need continued support from the families in our community. It truly takes a village, participation in school activities and support of all families will only improve our community,” said Friess.

Students in the Parker Stake have been recognizing teachers annually for more than 20 years. The stake wanted to thank Nicole Ponder and Katie Spear who made the 2024 event possible.
