Denver Area Day Program Celebrates 10 Years, Serves Many Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

WHEAT RIDGE, CO – On Sunday September 11, 2022, A Brighter Community, a Denver-area day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

A Brighter Community, or ABC, is a labor of love by two women who invested everything they had to realize their dream of providing a meaningful life to exceptional people.  ABC was created by Robin Sattel, MS, a disability advocate, author, and mother of two with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Leah Martin, PhD, an author and passionate believer in the inherent worth of all people. A Brighter Community began in 2012 when Ms. Sattel decided to start a business to provide quality care for her son, and over the course of the last decade, ABC has grown from a company of two to a flourishing day program serving over 60 families in the northwest Denver metro area.

Of the company’s 26 current employees, ten are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Dr. Martin. Team Lead Katie Willden, a member of the Church in Arvada, who found her way to working at ABC through Dr. Martin, says, “The mission of Jesus Christ and the mission of A Brighter Community are the same: to minister to the individual with love, compassion, and caring. As I serve some of God’s most beloved children and help them have meaningful days, I feel His love for them and for me.”

Church member and mom Sandee Bodily says, “A Brighter Community is a blessing for our family. My daughter, McKenzi, has significant needs, and is non-verbal. It is wonderful to not have to worry about the care she is receiving at day program. We know that the staff at ABC love her and value her.”

Church member Lisa Gunn describes ABC’s programming as “a great mix of community activities, training in life skills, and academics.” Her son TJ “loves going to ABC and hates missing days” for any reason.

Founded in love and sustained by a commitment to providing the very best person-centered care, A Brighter Community enriches lives and helps make its corner of Denver a great place to live. ABC will celebrate 10 years of service with an open house, including food trucks, a selfie museum, and a raffle and silent auction. For more information see http://www.abrightercommunity.com/.
