Denver Teens Prep Hundreds of Shoes for Donation
By Corey Christiansen, Denver Metro Area News Media Specialist
Youth from two Greenwood Village congregations came together last month to serve neighbors in need, one pair of shoes at a time.
On November 15, teens from Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Greenwood Village joined with youth from the Greenwood Village Ward of the Denver Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to size and prepare shoes for Wholly Kicks, a nonprofit effort focused on providing footwear to those experiencing hardship.
The interfaith project was organized in partnership with Bryan Jaster, head of activities and outreach at Saint Peter Lutheran Church. From the Greenwood Village Ward, Young Women’s President Jill Whelan helped lead the youth, alongside Richard and Julie Millett, who serve in interfaith roles representing the Denver Stake.
Working side by side, the young people measured and sorted shoes, helping ensure that each donated pair would be ready for distribution. Organizers said the collaboration reflects a growing spirit of unity among local faith communities and offers a hopeful model of how churches can come together to meet practical needs in the community.
